Sand Charcoal is a 12″ x 24″ porcelain tile from Centura’s Sand range. Centura gives it a matte surface that holds light rather than throwing it back. Centura rates shade variation at V3, a moderate spread of tone that gives the installation obvious movement piece to piece. At 12″ x 24″, it covers ground with fewer grout lines than a small format, which keeps a room reading as one surface. The slip rating is R10, which covers floors that see occasional water such as kitchens, bathrooms and entry halls. The body is frost resistant, which opens up porches, garages, balconies and other areas that drop below freezing. Centura rates it for floors and walls, so one tile can carry a shower wall down onto the floor with no change of material. The edges are rectified, cut square after firing, so it sets with a joint of roughly 2 to 3 mm over a flat substrate. The body measures 8 mm. For a colour match, Centura specifies grout 941 – Raven. It ships 8 pieces to a box, covering 15.42 sq ft, or 1.9279 sq ft a piece.
